SENAPATI: The 8th General Conference of the Poumai Naga Naotumai Me (PNNM) commenced at the district headquarters in Senapati with Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, Losii Dikho, gracing the occasion as chief guest. The programme was presided over by R.B. Pani, President of the Poumai Naga Union.

Established in 1987, the women’s body is holding this year’s conference under the theme, “Ignite Your Sparkle.” The event is being hosted by Joshila Sharma Pou, wife of Th. Radheshyam Singh, MLA of 33-Heirok AC, as chief host, while L.S. Champa, wife of Lt. L.S. John, former Minister, is the chief patron.

Delivering the welcome address, P. Louniiru, Advisor to PNNM, extended a warm greeting to all attendees and lauded the Deputy Chief Minister for his dedicated services towards societal upliftment. She described his presence as a reflection of his belief in serving humanity as service to God. Expressing pride in hosting him after he resumed office, she urged the gathering to remember him in their prayers for continued wisdom and prosperity. She also called upon participants to make the conference meaningful and memorable throughout its course.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho said that such conferences reflect growth and progress in society, especially when organised for women. He noted that programmes of this nature offer valuable insights and lessons that benefit individuals and communities alike. Expressing gratitude for the love and encouragement extended to him upon assuming office, he candidly shared his sense of humility, questioning, “Why me, Lord? Why such big responsibilities to me?” He attributed his appointment to the prayers and support of believers.

He stated that he holds the position not only for his political party, the Naga People’s Front, but for all Nagas, adding that the Kukis also have a Deputy Chief Minister in the state. Inspired by the large gathering of women, he described the conference as precious, saying such forums foster unity and peaceful coexistence. He urged women to shoulder their responsibility in building better families, societies and villages upon returning home.

Reflecting on his personal life, the Deputy Chief Minister paid tribute to his mother, saying no one can replace a mother’s role in a family. He acknowledged that no service rendered by a child can truly repay a mother’s sacrifices. Recalling how his mother toiled tirelessly for the family, he said her guidance shaped his journey and added that without her goodness, he would not be where he is today. He encouraged mothers to nurture good children to create a better and happier world.

The conference is being attended by former Poumai elected representatives, present and former CSO leaders, Army and CRPF officers, former ADC members, former Presidents and Secretaries of PNNM, all Poumai Ex-MLAs, representatives of KSTC, SDOAM and SDBA, the CMO of Senapati, members of the Karong Senapati Town Committee, and delegates from various Poumai Naga villages, among others.
