97-year-old succumbs to Covid-19, 7 new cases reported in Ukhrul dist in 24 hrs

Cumulative death reached 18 while total active stands at 38.

In yet another Covid-19 fatality case, a 97-year-old man identified as one Ramyo Hongrei H/o Shimtharla Hongrei a resident of Greenland village Ukhrul succumbed to the infection on Saturday at Greenland tang.

Meanwhile, as requested by the deceased family, additional district magistrate Ukhrul has granted permission to carry home the mortal remains of late Ramyo Hongrei, 97, husband of Shimtharla Hongrei of Greenland Ukhrul village for burial at Phungyo Baptist Church burial site with strict compliance to Covid protocols.

Altogether, 18 persons have succumbed to coronavirus infections in the district.

On the other hand, with seven fresh positive detection and with discharge of three positive patients the total active tally in the district remains at 38.

As part of the preventive measures to contain the spread of the disease in the area, additional district magistrate Ukhrul in exercise of the power conferred upon him had sealed the houses and barred entry and exit of population from the four containment areas and directed to initiate active surveillance of Covid-19 cases.

The areas declared containment today are residences of Ramreiyo Vashum at Rayotang Ukhrul, residence of late Ramyo Hongrei at Greenland Ukhrul, residence of Maya Bista wife of Dil Bahadur at Hamleikhong Block-E and residence of Micheal Pharung husband of Ngathingmi Pharung at Pharung village.

The district currently has 38 active cases of which 13 at District Hospital Isolation ward, Transit Covid Care Centre 23 and Leisan Community Isolation Centre 2.

While cumulative positive stands at 433 – of which 251 are male and 182 are female. Altogether 14 cases have been referred, according to district surveillance officer, Ukhrul.
