Media houses in Manipur protested again on Friday after six days of suspension of publication following a fresh threat to Poknapham daily where a suspected militant group hurled a bomb earlier this month.Â
A joint meeting of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) was held on Friday in this regard. After a threadbare deliberation on the latest threat, the meeting decided to resort to cease work strike from Friday. Â
While strongly condemning the latest threat, the joint meeting set a 48-hour deadline to the group responsible for the bomb attack as well as the latest threat to give a detailed account of charges levelled against Poknapham daily. The cease work strike will continue till the lapse of the deadline.
While ceasing their works, the scribes staged a sit-in protest at the premises of the Manipur Press Club, Imphal on Friday.Â
Recently, newspapers failed to hit stands for six days in Manipur after the scribes resorted to cease work agitation in protest against the hand grenade attack at the office of the Poknapham, which also houses the office of its sister publication The People’s Chronicle.
