In recognition for achieving one of the highest civilian award of India, The Veikhang Katamnao Long (VKL) felicitated the well-decorated son of its area at a glittering event at Kangkhui Khullen Friday.
Guru Rewben Mashangva, the ‘King of Naga folk blues’ singer from Ukhrul district of Manipur was conferred the prestigious Padma Shri award by President Ram Nath this year.
Various artists including Mac Kasar & De Band, JC KIT, Oshim, Nimzingla and Chanshimla entertained the crowd as they joined the awardee, Guru in sharing their joy for creating milestone in his
long cherished musical journey.
Commenting on the felicitation, Ringphapam Kasar, VKL President said, “Veikhang Katamnao Long, VKL, felt the need to gave our acknowledgement, honoured and appreciation to Guru Rewben for making breakthrough which many artists could not. He had brought laurels not only to the area but to the community and state as a whole.

The student body also gave their special thanks to Alfred Kanngam Arthur, the lone sitting Congress MLA of Ukhrul and Chanchui Shangh, social worker for supporting the event who was also an intending candidate, for their contributions.
When we approached Alfred for the event, he was very supportive saying Indians will get to know more about Tangkhul through a folk singer like Guru Rewben. We must, and should encouraged such felicitation, Kasar added.
The event was attended by Veikhang area chiefs, VAs, church leaders, Shanao long leaders, and villagers.
