Manipur police collect over Rs 1.65 crore as fine for violating COVID-19 SOPs

The amount collected as fine from the people who violated SOPs and guidelines on COVID-19 pandemic by Manipur police crossed Rs 1.65 crore on Saturday.

The police in Manipur have been conducting drives against COVID-19 SOPs violators since the state government implemented SOPs and other guidelines from time to time to check the spread of the COVID-19.

The police intensified the drives commencing from March 24, 2020 following the countrywide lockdown announced by the Central government to contain the spread of the disease.

The state police continued the drive against violation of the guidelines and restrictions issued by the state government and the state disaster management authority in connection with COVID-19 pandemic, the police said.

Currently, the drive against failure to wear a mask in public places, to maintain social distancing in public places, spitting in public places etc is going on, it said.

And, during today’s drive, a total of 160 persons were detained only to release them after warning and slapping fines. A total of Rs 19,900 was collected as fines, the police said.

Including today’s collection, the state police so far penalised 1,23,386 persons and 51,850 vehicles and collected altogether Rs 1,65,98,329, they said.

Meanwhile, two fresh positive cases detected during testing of 1,191 samples in the past 24 hours took the overall COVID-19 caseload in Manipur to 29,288, state health department said on Saturday.
With the 1,191, the state has so far tested 5,55,138 samples for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 Control Room of the state government, in its daily update report, stated that the two persons who were confirmed as new COVID-19 cases were from the general population and they were from Imphal East and Noney districts.

As there was no report of COVID-19 related death from any part of the state, the fatality tally remained at 373.

During the past 24 hours, four patients were discharged after they recovered from the viral infection, taking the total number of recovered cases to 28,884.

Only 31 active cases are there in the state. The recovery rate stood at 98.63%.

On the other hand, the total number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 in the state rose to 65,465 as 2,816 more people were inoculated on Saturday.

The total number of beneficiaries included 30,204 healthcare workers, the Health department said.
