Taking strong exception to July 23 “unfortunate incident” at Yaingangpokpi, and the way the related video clips of the same incident is being widely circulated in the social media, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong said they leave it to the authority to conduct an impartial probe.
While we leave it to the authority to conduct an impartial probe, we are nevertheless constrained to remind that such a wanton public display of violence depicts a sorry picture of the revered men in uniform, TKS said in a statement on Sunday.
The apex student body of Tangkhul student Union, TKS, then said that it is incumbent upon the “police to act in a dignified and lawful manner” under every situation, adding that “unleashing such brutal attacks upon ordinary citizens sullies the image of the police and portrays a sad case of law-keepers turning into lawbreakers”.
TKS is deeply saddened to observe the grossly inappropriate behaviour of the “thronging bystanders who were heard encouraging the police during their assault on the citizens”, in blatant violation of all the Covid SOPs and total curfew in place now. Such actions amount to abetment of offence and is therefore highly condemnable, the statement said.
The authority is hereby urged upon to taking cognizance of the aforementioned points of concern and ensure that such unsavoury incidents do not recur in the future, it added.
