Neeraj Chopra brings home India’s first Gold at Tokyo Olympics

Neeraj Chopra has won the first gold medal for India in Men’s Javelin throw breaking barriers, creating history for India in bringing home the first ever athletics track and field medal.

Neeraj Chopra topped the Men’s Javelin throw scoreboard with a throw of 87.58 metres to win the gold.

Neeraj Chopra’s gold medal takes India’s medal tally to Seventh (4 Bronze, 2 Silver and 1 Gold) in the ongoing Tokoyo Olympics 2020 already one gold ahead of India’s best-ever haul of Six Olympic medals at the London 2012 Olympics.

  5. Ravi Kumar – Silver in Men’s Freestyle Wrestling 57 kg category.
  6. Bajrang Punia – Bronze in Men’s Freestyle Wrestling 65 kg category.
  7. Neeraj Chopra – Gold in Men’s Javelin throw.

Much delighted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacting on twitter said, “History has been scripted at Tokyo! What @Neeraj_chopra1 has achieved today will be remembered forever. The young Neeraj has done exceptionally well. He played with remarkable passion and showed unparalleled grit. Congratulations to him for winning the Gold. #Tokyo2020.”
