Imphal, Feb 12: Miscreants opened fire around 10 rounds of gunshots at the residence of vice president and spokesperson of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Hareshwar Goswami in Imphal on Saturday night, reports said on Sunday.
No casualty occurred in the firing at the residence at Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak under Porompat police station of Imphal East district on Saturday night, around 12.30 am.

After the gun attack, family members found 10 empty cases including seven for 9mm ammunition from the gate early Sunday morning. A team of Porompat police station inspected the residence after being informed by the family members.
A case against unidentified miscreants has been registered and initiated an investigation, a police source said.
Leaders of MPCC including its president K Meghachandra, former chief minister O Ibobi Singh and others also paid a visit at the residence of Hareshwar Goswami this morning.
The MPCC strongly condemned the gun attack at the residence of its vice president while terming the attack as an act of cowardice.

“The Congress will not bog down by threats,” said O Ibobi Singh while strongly condemning the gun attack and recent alleged arson attempt at the MPCC office in BT Road on Friday night.
Talking to reporters at the residence of the MPCC vice president, Ibobi said the recent series of violent incidents targeting the Congress party left a big question mark whether democracy exists in the country, particularly in Manipur.
“Threatening members and workers of a political party is cowardice and is not valid in a democratic country like India,” he also said.

At the same time, he added that such acts will strengthen the party and the courage of the party workers.
Ibobi insisted that the law enforcing agencies, particularly the police, should take the incidents of attacking the party office and members seriously and investigate properly to nab the perpetrators.
Asserting that democracy is at stake under the present governments at the Centre as well as in the state, the former three time chief minister of Manipur said dictatorship is no longer popular all over the world and would not last long.
