Bomb blast in Ukhrul injures 5; second such episode in 2 weeks

Ukhrul: A low-intensity bomb exploded in Ukhrul town’s Viewland bazaar at around 6:30 pm leaving five injured. The bomb explosion is the second such incident in a span of two weeks in Ukhrul headquarters. Just recently on March 21, a bomb exploded inside Mini Secretariat compound in Ukhrul headquarters around 3:40 pm.

The latest episode of the blast on Monday evening which occurred at the heart of the town’s commercial hub, is believed to be from an IED bomb, injuring two grievously. According to a doctor, the two will be referred to Imphal for further treatment. However, there is no report of casualty.

The injured are all non-locals, mostly shop keepers in Viewland bazaar locality, including a cart puller.

The five injured have been identified as:

Sanjai Kumar Prasad, 30, S/o Laxman Bhagat of Bihar, a cart puller severely injured, referred to Imphal for further treatment.

Arjun Dahl, 26 S/o Prakashdhan, of Leimakhong, said to be out of danger.

Sanjay Uprety, 27, S/o Krishna, of Kanglatompi, said to be out of danger.

Satnarayan Gupta, 36, S/o Devakumar Gupta of Bihar injured with two pellets, removed from his body at Ukhrul District Hospital.

Mangal Mahato, 50 years from Bihar, who is to be referred to Imphal for further treatment.

The motive behind the bomb blast is unknown at the time of filing this report. Ukhrul police led by superintendent of police, Ningsem Vashum and 35 AR personnel led by Major Josephine rushed to spot.

It is worth noting that the district commissioner of Ukhrul, Krishna Kumar, in the aftermath of the March 21 bomb explosion had informed that security agents are deployed and investigations are being made. He asked the public not to panic but cooperate with the investigation if anyone has vital information about the blast. Krishna also said that “with joined hands we can maintain peace and harmony that has been prevailing in Ukhrul town.”
