Manipur top cop P Doungel dismisses 10 Kuki MLAs claims about State police

Imphal, May 19: P Doungel, Manipur Director General of Police dismissed the claims of the 10 Kuki MLAs that all Kuki police from top brass to the lowest ranks were stripped off all powers, while Meitei police personnel were let loose in the ethnic clash between the two communities.

In a press release on Friday DGP Doungel clarified that “no such action were taken by the government or from any quarter,” in response to section of press that appeared addressed to the union home minister Amit Shah by the 10 Tribal MLAs who are currently demanding for a Separate Administration from Manipur State.

The top cop categorically clarified that “no Kuki or Meitei policemen right from DGP to the lowest ranks, whether in Khaki or in Green, are all performing their duties to their best wherever they are assigned.”

The 10 Kuki MLAs claims in section of news outlets read, “As it was premeditated, all Kuki police officers from the DG/Addl. DG/jt DG down to the constables were stripped of all powers, disarmed and rendered inactive much prior to the 3rd of May, while Meitei police were let loose upon Kuki residents of the city as well as of the foothill villages on the 3rd of May and thereafter. As a result of the backlash in the hill areas, all Meitei Police staff have abandoned their posts in all the hill stations,” as per the DGP’s press statement.

Following the vicious ethnic violence, the 10 Kuki legislators speaking for the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi hill tribals in a press statement said, “To live amidst the Meitei again is as good as death for our people.”
