Imphal: Normal classes for students of Class 1 to 8 in Manipur resumed today after a prolonged summer vacation owing to the prevailing crisis facing the state. However, 96 schools, including at least 41 schools in Churachanpdur District are yet to be reopened. Several schools witnessed thin attendance of students on the re-opening day, as conditions in some parts of the state, especially in foothill villages, remain volatile.

Director of Education (Schools) Manipur L. Nandakumar Singh on Monday issued an order which said “In supersession of all orders issued in this regard, normal classes for Class 1 to 8 for all schools in the state, will resume from 5th of July, 2023 [Wednesday]. All zonal education officers under the department of education-schools, Manipur are hereby directed to inform all concerned and take up necessary actions accordingly.”

However, the resumption of normal classes for all the 4,617 schools in the state will not apply to 96 schools in various districts which are currently involved in relief measures. These schools include 41 schools in Churachandpur District, 17 schools in Bishnupur, 10 schools in Kakching, 8 schools each in Imphal East and Kangpokpi Districts, 4 schools each in Ukhrul and Tengnoupal Districts and 2 schools each in Imphal West and Thoubal Districts.
An order dated 4th July, 2023 issued by Directorate of Education-Schools, Manipur says a separate order for the opening of these schools will be issued at a later date after alternative arrangements are made either by shifting the students or shifting the relief camps etc.
