Meghalaya reports 113 recoveries of COVID-19 on Monday

SHILLONG, Aug 31: Meghalaya recorded 113 patients recovered from COVID-19 on Monday. During the same period, the state also registered 26 fresh cases of the disease taking the number of active COVID-19 cases to 1,196 and the recovered cases to 1,162.

In East Khasi Hills, 14 cases were detected and they are all civilians, 5 cases in West Garo Hills which include a BSF jawan and 4 civilians, another four civilians tested positive in East Jaintia Hills and a case each was reported from Ri Bhoi and South West Garo Hills, informed Health Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek.

He said 15 are high risk contacts, 3 are influenza like illnesses (ILI) cases, 2 from the Armed and Paramilitary Forces (A/PF) and 9 cases are returnees.

Of the 113 new recoveries, 80 are from East Khasi Hills, 26 from West Garo Hills, 3 from East Jaintia Hills and 2 each from Ri Bhoi and North Garo Hills, said the Health Minister. 

Meghalaya has so far recorded a total of 2,368 positive COVID-19 cases, of which 1,196 are active, 1,162 have recovered and 10 have died related to the disease. 

Meanwhile, a total of 88,963 samples have been sent for testing of which 85,924 were found to be negative while test results of 671 are yet to be announced.

There are 32,573 entrants from outside the state as of Monday.

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said most of the returnees are residents of the state and few are highly skilled laborers from outside. According to him, so far no positive cases of COVID-19 have been detected from these highly skilled laborers, who entered the state.
