Imphal: At least 4 people have been confirmed killed on Monday in Lilong under Thoubal district of Manipur allegedly attacked by Arambai Teggol group. All the 4 killed are reportedly Meitei Pangals (Muslims) of Waithou Chingjao under Lilong Police Station.

The deceased are identified as Makakmayum (55) S/o Rihajuddin, Makakmayum Fahad (18) S/o Asharaf Ali and Makakmayum Apikpa (35) S/o Nurjaman. Another person who was rushed to hospital succumbed to his injury. Ukhrul Times is yet to ascertain the person’s identify at the time of filing this report.
The injured identified as under have been admitted to Raj Medicity.

A video of the deceased lying on the road side, amid burning of several vehicles, mostly Maruti Gypsys has gone viral.

As per a video available from the locals in Lilong, the incident occurred when Arambai Tenggol on Monday evening allegedly demanded money from one Md Hassain, a well known person in Waithou Chingjao, Lilong . A scuffle broke out because of the demand, leaving at least 11 injured and 4 confirmed killed.
However, the Arambai Tenggol, reacting to the allegation has flatly denied any involvement in the incident that took place today in a press release issued on Monday. The group also maintained that the false allegation using the name of Arambai Tenggol is to tarnish the reputation of the organisation.

The Meitei Leepun meanwhile has condemned the incident calling it “unfortunate and regrettable.”
While strongly condemning the act the Meitei Leepun said, “It is deeply regrettable that this event took place at a time when we are combating narco-terrorism.” It further added that if necessary, it will assist the authorities in identifying the culprits responsible for this dastardly deed.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has condemned the Lilong incident and appealed to all the people of the State especially residents of valley area and Lilong to co-operate in avoiding further escalation of violence amid the ongoing crisis facing Manipur.

N Biren said that the Government does not take the unfortunate incident at Lilong where in innocent people have been killed lightly. He said the State police will track down the perpetrators on war footing and book those involved and take legal action at the earliest.
CM Biren while urging the perpetrators to surrender themselves, warning them of stern actions from the government for carrying out the barbaric act, has appealed everyone, especially the people of Lilong to co-operate in tracking down the culprits.
The authority has clamped an indefinite curfew in all the five districts of Imphal valley owing to the incident.
