Revolutionary People’s Front issues clarification on Lilong Chingjao firing incident

Amid strong condemnation of the Monday evening at Waithou Chingjao under Lilong Police Station firing incident which took four lives, all of whom were Meitei Pangals (Muslims). Several civil society organisations and government has condemned the incident at Lilong. The proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front, the political wing of People’s Liberation Army has issued a clarification on Tuesday about the incident.

According to the press statement released by the outfit signed by Assistant Publicity of RPF Bangkim, it stated that RPF cadres on Monday around 8 pm, tried to capture a drug-lord named Md. Hassan from Lilong Chingjao, who has been already warned by the outfit on earlier occasion. But some people in the area stopped them and tried to snatch their weapons.

RPF further said that its cadres tried to disperse the mob by opening blank fires in the air but the irate crowd were uncontrollable. Eventually, RPF cadres had to leave behind the man they had captured and flee from the scene. However, some people started opening fire towards them and they had to fire back in retaliation.

“RPF expresses deepest condolences for the lost of lives and injury to others in the incident. RPF is initiating an inquiry into the incident,” said the press statement.

It is worth mentioning that the Arambai Tenggol, reacting to the allegation on Lilong firing episode had flatly denied any involvement in the incident that took place on Monday. The group also had maintained that the false allegation using the name of Arambai Tenggol is to tarnish the reputation of the organisation.
