Ukhrul: The Zingtun Tangkhul Katamnao Long (ZTKL) stated today that the home of one Chinaohei Ngalung in Ringui village, Ukhrul district, Manipur, was razed by an inferno on the evening of January 21.
The student body suspects that it was due to a short circuit.
ZTKL mentioned that the entire house and all its possessions were destroyed by the inferno.

According to the student body, the fire destroyed two buildings, including an under-construction building that was 95% complete. “Thanks to the villagers’ quick intervention, the fire was contained before it could spread to other houses,” added ZTKL. The fire incident resulted in property damages exceeding an amount of Rs. 40 lakhs, the student body also said.
“We are touched by the fact that the victim, Ch Ngalung, was a dedicated retired teacher who had invested all his savings and pension funds to build the said home, but everything was destroyed by fire on the fateful evening of January 21,” the student body also added.

ZTKL expressed its sympathy and stands in solidarity with the victim’s family.
ZTKL then requested the concerned authorities to investigate the incident and corresponding damages, provide prompt relief, and guarantee just and fitting recompense.
It also appealed to the villagers and the neighboring community to provide the victim’s family all possible assistance.

“As a corrective step, we fervently request the state government to open a fire sub-station in the vicinity of LM-Block as remedial measures at the earliest to ensure the safety and security of the people and their properties in the area,” ZTKL also said.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident at the Somdal police station, Ukhrul district.
