Special envoy led by AK Mishra visits violence-hit Manipur

Imphal: Following the recent violence in the Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh and rising tensions in violence-hit Manipur, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has dispatched a special envoy to assess the prevailing situation in the state.

AK Mishra, Advisor to the MHA and Interlocutor for talks with Kuki Insurgent Groups, leads the MHA’s three-member special team. Other members include Rajesh Kumble, Joint Director of SIB Manipur, and Mandeep Singh, Joint Director of SIB New Delhi.

It may be mentioned that Interlocutor AK Mishra convened a meeting with Kuki-Zo leaders in Churachandpur district on November 9, last year.

The MHA’s special envoy arrived at Imphal’s Bir Tikendrajit International Airport about 5.40 pm, on Monday. According to a reliable source, the team was assigned to grasp the ground realities in the state.
