Ukhrul: Continuous heavy rain since yesterday has caused multiple landslides across Ukhrul District, severely disrupting daily life and infrastructure. The situation has led to widespread reports of landslides, including a significant incident at Phungreitang West, where an electric pole was swept away.
One of the most affected areas is Shirui, where a landslide has completely cut off vehicle movement on NH 150 (Ukhrul-Jessami Road). Further reports indicate numerous landslides along the Ukhrul-Imphal road, leaving vehicles stranded at various locations, including Kazipphung in Ukhrul – Imphal road.
The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has responded by deploying machinery to clear the debris. An NHIDCL officer confirmed that efforts are underway, and the Mongkot Chepu area has already been cleared.
According to the MET Centre in Imphal, the rainfall recorded between May 27 at 8:30 a.m. and May 28 at 8:30 a.m. is as follows:
- Jiribam: 80.5 mm
- Chandel: 67 mm
- Imphal Airport: 54.5 mm
- Churachandpur: 35 mm
- Bishnupur: 75 mm
- Ukhrul: 92.2 mm
- Tamenglong: 10.2 mm
- Thoubal: 68.3 mm
