IMPHAL, July 16: Unknown person(s) fired a few rounds at the residence of a newspaper editor in Imphal. Khoirom Loyalakpa, the editor of the vernacular daily newspaper, Naharolgi Thoudang, lives in Kontha Khabam Lai Haraopham in Imphal East district. The incident happened around 12.25 am today.
There were few bullet marks at the gate. On learning about the incident, a team of Heingang Police came to the spot and recovered six empty cartridges, the reports said. However, no one was injured in the incident
Loyalakpa was at his office while the rest of the family members were sleeping at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild, Manipur (EGM) have strongly condemned the incident.
A joint press release issued by AMJWU and EGM stated that an emergency meeting of the two journalists’ bodies was held today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
It said that the meeting resolved to urge the concerned government authorities to book the culprits involved in the attack and award befitting punishment at the earliest.
