Ukhrul: The media fraternity in Manipur mourns the sudden passing of Satyajit Usham, Senior News Editor at The People’s Chronicles. He passed away on October 6 at the age of 49 due to a sudden cardiac arrest.
A condolence meeting was held at the Manipur Press Club in Majorkhul, Imphal, where members of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and the Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) paid tribute to him. Among those present were AMWJU President Bijoy Kakchingtabam and EGM President Khogendra Khomdram, who joined family members in offering floral tributes.

Satyajit Usham, a highly respected journalist, hailed from Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai and held degrees in English Literature from Delhi University. He began his career at Yakairol, worked for The Sangai Express, and served as Editor of the English edition of Huiyen Lanpao before joining The People’s Chronicles in 2016. In 2013, he was honored with the Manipur State Journalist Award for his editorials on national integration and communal harmony.
His sudden passing occurred after he collapsed while hiking with his sons at Cheirao Ching. Though he was rushed to RIMS, he could not be revived. He leaves behind his wife, Memthoi Takhellambam, and two teenage sons. The media fraternity will remember him for his dedication and lasting contributions to journalism in Manipur.
