Kohima, November 11: Advisor Imkong L. Imchem held a press briefing at the New Secretariat in Kohima today, addressing significant developments under the BJP-led administration related to Naga political issues and central flagship programs.
Imchem highlighted the progress on Naga political matters, particularly through the “framework agreement” and “agreed position” reached under BJP governance. He emphasized the importance of a diplomatic and flexible approach to resolving these issues, firmly opposing any return to armed conflict.

Calling on current leaders to build a strong foundation for future generations, Imchem stressed the need for a stable, peaceful environment, free from cycles of violence. Reflecting on the need for a balanced roadmap, he warned that failure to establish such a framework could perpetuate instability. He noted that many people still bear the scars of past violence and that a sustainable, peaceful solution is essential for long-term stability.
Imchem advocated for a negotiation style rooted in flexibility and “give and take,” urging negotiators to explore alternative options when needed. He rejected a “winner-takes-all” approach, instead favoring a “win-win” outcome that respects both India’s and the Naga people’s interests, describing this as “inter-diplomacy”—a reciprocal, flexible diplomacy aimed at mutual benefit.
Imchem also underscored the importance of central flagship programs in addressing Nagaland’s needs, given the state’s limited resources. These initiatives, implemented across various departments, play a crucial role in supporting the state’s development. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong ties with central leaders to ensure ongoing benefits for Nagaland, expressing confidence in Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and his contributions to India’s economic stability and growth.

Discussing the BJP’s alliance policy, Imchem affirmed the party’s commitment to its coalition partners, stating, “The BJP party never betrays its alliance partners; history will prove this.” He highlighted Nagaland’s current opposition-less government as a reflection of strong collaboration among political entities, which he believes has positively impacted governance and development.
However, Imchem also expressed concerns about the opposition-less government, describing it as “tasteless” due to the lack of a counterbalance that traditionally holds governments accountable. He stressed that opposition serves as the people’s voice, ensuring accountability by highlighting the ruling party’s mistakes, and concluded that a government without opposition lacks the “flavor” necessary for a balanced and accountable system.
