UKHRUL: The Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) Administration has condemned and called for accountability over the ambush and killing of four army cadres at Hongbei village on March Saturday.

In an official statement, the WTR expressed deep grief over the loss, describing the victims as brave brothers whose lives were taken by assailants who did not understand the importance of brotherhood. The deceased have been identified as Major Sochipem Phungshok, S/Major Zairei Vasah, Sergeant Pahnle Ahlahpya, and Sergeant Thanshomi Vashi.

The administration has urged the government to clarify the circumstances surrounding the killings and demanded that those responsible be brought to justice with the highest punishment. It further stated that there has been no previous communication or correspondence regarding the incident with the Wung Tangkhul Region Administration, raising concerns about transparency.

The WTR emphasized the need for unity among the Tangkhul community and called the ambush a direct challenge to its jurisdiction and authority.

“Tangkhuls cannot be divided,” the statement read, adding that any internal divisions must be addressed by the highest authorities of the Naga nation.

Extending condolences to the bereaved families, the WTR assured them of its support during this difficult time. The statement concluded by honoring the sacrifices of the fallen cadres, expressing hope that their deaths would awaken the conscience of the nation and foster stronger bonds among communities.

“May the souls of the four brave soldiers rest in peace. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten till the end,” the statement said.
