Agreement Reached under Monsang Naga Customary Law Following Assault on STS Leaders

Chandel, November 6: Following the assault on leaders of the Sirti Thiimjiitam Sourkhe, (STS) (Monsang Students’ Union), the Sirti Upa Ruh (Monsang Tribe Union) and the United Committee, Pallel (UCP) have come together to negotiate and restore peace through the Monsang Naga Customary Law.

In a joint release issued by Ng. Benithan, President of the Monsang Tribe Union (MTU), and Moirangthem Jiban, Convenor of the United Committee, Pallel (UCP), it was informed that a joint meeting for settlement and negotiation between the two parties was held on November 4 (Tuesday) and November 6 (Thursday), 2025, at SUR Hall (Ng. Mono Monsang Memorial Hall, Japhou) at 11 a.m. The meeting was convened under the initiative of Sirti Upa Ruh (Monsang Tribe Union), with the culprits’ families invited before the Customary Court of the Union.

After holding extensive talks for an amicable resolution, the MTU and UCP reached a mutual understanding and agreement to uphold peace and tranquility between the two parties and their respective communities. The negotiation and agreement were made under the Monsang Naga Customary Law, the statement said. Both sides also agreed to ensure that such incidents would not recur in the future.

“Let this negotiation and agreement bring mutual understanding between the two parties, the Monsang Tribe Union and the United Committee, Pallel and between the victims’ families and the culprits’ families,” the joint statement added.

It further emphasized that the agreement must be maintained and respected “in letter and spirit” to promote peace and harmony between the Naga and Meetei communities, who continue to coexist as good neighbors in the region.

The incident in question occurred on the night of October 30, 2025, when STS leaders, including President Gedion Kiirii and General Secretary Wanglar Philip, along with two others, were attacked by unknown miscreants near KHO Automobile Workshop along NH-102 at Nungourok Village. An FIR was filed at Kakching Police Station the following day, and the culprits were subsequently arrested, officials confirmed.
