Manipur police rubbishes NSCN-IM's allegation about Ukhrul SP

Imphal, Jan 12: The Manipur police on Sunday rubbished the NSCN-IM’s allegation that Ukhrul police were helping Kuki militants.

“On 11/1/25 it was found that some media outlets were publishing a news item claiming that Ukhrul SP was aiding Kuki militants, which was based on a press release from NSCN IM. The news item and the press release are blatantly false,” Manipur police said in its official X handle on Sunday.

The Police said that based on a request from the BSF and Kangpokpi district police, as well as directives from the Police headquarters, Ukhrul district police gave police guides to the BSF team travelling to Molham Kuki village on December 12, 202,4 and again on December 19 Ukhrul district police gave security escorts to trucks carrying labourers and materials for the construction of security barracks in Molham Kuki village, which will house BSF coys.

The post on the social networking site X further said that posting or publishing such unverified facts is wrong and it tarnishes the image of the Ukhrul district police and the reputation of the Superintendent of Police.

“Appeal is hereby made to all to verify facts before putting things in the public domain during these sensitive times when efforts are being made from all fronts to bring peace and restore normalcy in the state,” it said.

Most of the local dailies in the state published the NSCN-IM statement as a news item alleging that the Ukhrul SP was found directly involved in “an indefensible act in what could be the final blow to the long-held allegations of the Kuki militants being tacitly supported by the security agencies of the Government of India”.
