Agartala: Tripura’s Former Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb didn’t hold back on January 12, throwing shade at the Communist Party for its complete disregard for young leaders. In a sarcastic twist, Deb recommended that young people ditch the grey-haired political veterans and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for a quicker route to leadership—before their hair even starts turning!

Speaking at an event organized by the Tripura Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) at Rabindra Shatabarshi Bhavan on National Youth Day, Deb stated, “There is no place for youth among the Communists. You can’t become a big leader until your hair turns grey. But in the BJP, you can become the Chief Minister without waiting for your hair to turn grey. That’s why the youth should come to the BJP.”

He highlighted the stark contrast between the BJP’s approach to youth and that of the Communist Party by saying, “In the BJP, you can become an MLA at 35 and even Chief Minister before 50. But if you stick with the Communists, you’ll be lucky to become an MLA when you’re 70.”

Deb pointed to Minister Sudhanshu Das as an example, who became an MLA and later a cabinet minister at a young age. At the same time, he compared himself with a CPI(M) candidate in the 2018 Assembly elections under the Banamalipur Assembly Constituency, who, after years with the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), only got the chance to contest elections later in life. Sudhanshu Das became an MLA and a cabinet minister at a young age, but that CPI(M) candidate, after spending years with DYFI, only got to fight elections at an old age,” Deb quipped.

The former Chief Minister further criticized the Communist Party for using young people for their own gain, saying, “The Communists don’t care about youth welfare. They use young people to further their own interests.”

Turning his sarcasm towards the Communist Party Deb declared, “The Communist Party is like a blown-out light bulb. No matter how much they try to light a candle, it won’t burn. The days of the Communists and DYFI in Tripura are over.” He added that no matter how much they try to make a difference, the Communist Party is like a candle that can’t stay lit, particularly in Tripura.

Deb went on to reflect on the years-long rule of the Communists in Tripura, saying, “For years, the Communists ruled because the opposition couldn’t challenge them. If the BJP had been strong enough earlier, the Communists would never have ruled Tripura for so long.” He reminded everyone that Tripura’s land belongs to its youth, stating, “Tripura is the land of Goddess Tripureshwari and its youth. The future of this state lies in the hands of young people.”

Deb also urged BJP workers to spread the word among youth, encouraging them to make it clear that if their future is important, the BJP is the place to be. “Go to the villages, towns, and schools, and tell them: if the youth want a bright future, they should come to the BJP,” he said.

Deb’s comments were filled with sharp jabs and sarcasm, accusing the Communist Party of being outdated and irrelevant. “The Communist Party cannot do anything. They’re like a fused bulb—blown out and useless,” he added, criticizing the party’s inability to make meaningful progress in the state.

At the event along with MP Biplab, Member of Rajya Sabha Rajib Bhattacharjee, Bishalgarh’s MLA and the state President of BJYM Sushanta Deb, and other BJP leaders and karyakartas were present.
