Imphal: The Manipur Government has started alternative supply chain cum transportation of essential commodities to Churachandpur district through Silchar and Aizawl as the supply chain from Imphal-Dimapur is broken. It may be mentioned that transportation of essential commodities from Imphal to
Churachandpur with the coordination of Army, CAPF and Assam Rifles is also planned from Monday August 28.

A press release from the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Government of Manipur says issues faced during transportation include unwillingness of transportation operators to operate between Imphal to Churachandpur and other security issues like law and order issues in the inter-district boundary which hamper smooth movement of essential commodities. Security issues of National Highways are being addressed by the State Police along with AR, CAPF and District Trade and Commerce in coordination with the general public.

Other actions taken to ensure smooth flow of essential commodities include regular review meetings on price and availability situations held at the DC level. Retail sale of rice was also undertaken from the stock held by FCI, which included 4823.50 Quintals of rice distributed under Open Market Sales Scheme Sale. Price Reporting Centres have also been established by the SDOs along with the ADC council staff to report on retail and wholesale prices and stringent action against hoarders and black marketers manipulating market prices is taken to prevent any hoarding, said DIPR.

The government has taken various measures to ensure that medical supplies are reaching the district, with the Health department undertaking multiple sorties of transportation through BSF, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and Helicopter. The government is also monitoring price of 22 essential commodities which include Rice, Wheat, Atta, Gram Dal, Tur (Arhar) Dal, Urad Dal, Moong Dal, Masoor Dal, Sugar, Gur, Groundnut Oil, Mustard Oil, Vanaspati, Sunflower Oil, Soya Oil, Palm Oil, Tea, Milk, Potato, Onion, Tomato and Salt, with District level price monitoring Cell/Price Monitoring Committee setup at district level with the Deputy Magistrate of Churachandpur as the chairman.
