UKHRUL/NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday assured Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh that the Central Government would fulfil the wishes and aspirations of the people of the state, according to a release issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

The assurance came during a meeting between Amit Shah and Khemchand Singh at the Union home minister’s official residence in New Delhi at around 3 pm on Wednesday.

The meeting comes at a time when protests and agitations are continuing in Manipur over the demand for the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) before conducting the Census and the freezing of the delimitation process until the proper identification of Indian citizens is completed.

A delegation of 14 CSOs Kangleipak, along with leaders from different communities, has also been in New Delhi for the past several days, meeting Central leaders and officials and raising the issues of NRC, Census and delimitation. Meanwhile, the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) has been continuing its agitation in Manipur over the same demands.

According to the release, Amit Shah gave a patient hearing to the issues relating to Manipur raised by Khemchand Singh and informed the chief minister that the Central Government would fulfil the wishes and aspirations of the people of Manipur.

The release further stated that the Union home minister will visit Manipur in the first week of October. During the visit, Shah is expected to lay the foundation stone of the proposed medical college in Senapati district and oversee other developmental projects in the state.

Khemchand Singh, according to the release, said Shah had agreed to lay the foundation stone of the new medical college, which was recently approved by the state Cabinet.

The Union home minister also lauded the Manipur Government for the resumption of the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati passenger bus service and efforts to ensure free movement along National Highway-2.
