Amit Shah-N Biren Singh meeting focuses on full restoration of peace; Opposition ups the ante on President’s Rule

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday after meeting the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that bringing about full restoration of peace in the violence-hit state is the primary focus in the discussion. Shah, Biren said, also advised to put more effort and strengthen work in bringing about peace while assuring of the Centre government’s support to take all possible steps in tackling and brining normalcy in the prevailing conflict.

“Amit Shah Ji advised us to strengthen our work towards achieving everlasting peace and also sought the cooperation of every stakeholder in Manipur to ensure that peace prevails in the State,” wrote Biren on social media.

N Biren Sing said he apprised the ground situations briefing the Union Home Minister on the current situation that no casualties was reported or unwanted incidents took place due to the violence since June 13, while they discussed the way forward towards restoring normalcy in the state.

Meeting and seeking for cooperation of every stakeholders as per the advise of the Union Home Minister is of paramount importance and the same work will begin as soon as I land in Manipur, Biren told. He also added that the process to talk with all stakeholders has already begun.

The crucial meeting comes a day after the all-political party meeting convened by Union Home Minister that discussed the turmoil in Manipur. The meeting to discuss Manipur violence was attended by 30 opposition parties. The main opposition key demand sought the removal of N Biren Singh and the imposition of President’s Rule.

The Congress party deputed former chief minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh in the all-political party meeting. However, Congress said that Ibobi was barely given 7 minutes in the three hour long meeting on Saturday. Jairam Ramesh, MP and General Secretary in-charge Communications, taking a swipe on the ruling BJP government said that such treatment is an insult to Congress party.

The Congress party also accused Prime Minster Narendra Modi for his stoic silence in the prevailing conflict in Manipur for almost two months now.

N Biren on Sunday was accompanied by BJP national spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra, MP (Rajya Sabha) Leisemba Sanajaoba and Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Satyabrata Singh.

N Biren Singh took to twitter and said, he “briefed about the evolving situation on the ground in Manipur. Under Amit Shah Ji’s close supervision, the State and Central Govt have been able to control the violence to a great extent in the past week. It may be noted that there has been no report of casualties due to the violence since the 13th of June. Hon’ble Union HM has assured that the central government will take all possible steps to bring normalcy in Manipur. Further, Amit Shah Ji advised us to strengthen our work towards achieving everlasting peace and also sought the cooperation of every stakeholders in Manipur to ensure that peace prevails in the State…”

N Biren Singh left Imphal for New Delhi on Sunday afternoon by a charter flight, and is like to return to Manipur on Sunday night.
