IMPHAL, OCT 15: All Manipur Muslim Organizations’ Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC) has lamented that legislators from the Pangal (Meitei Muslim) community have been sidelined in today’s talk in New Delhi convened by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Legislators from Naga, Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities were invited for the talk  by the MHA in New Delhi today on the prevailing situation of Manipur.

Addressing a press conference at Hatta in Imphal East today, AMMOCOC president SM Jalal said the organisation welcomed the talk. However, it was hurt as the Pangal (Meitei Muslim) community was sidelined as none of the legislators belonging to the community was invited to engage in the talk/dialogue although legislators belonging to Meitei, Kuki-Zo and Naga communities were invited to the talk.

The AMMOCOC president then urged both the Central and State Governments to engage the Meitei Pangal legislators in the talk while asserting that the same community has been instrumental in cementing the ties between various communities in Manipur as a neutral community since the onset of the ongoing crisis.

He then expressed strong reservations about the ongoing talks facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs to resolve the Manipur crisis.

Jalal said that they will not accept any outcome which will be detrimental to Manipur’s integrity.

Notably, the talk, which began today in New Delhi, aimed to address the prolonged crisis that has ravaged the state since May 3, 2023.

He wished for a positive outcome which will put an end to the violence  from May 3, 2023.

Jalal, however, cautioned that AMMOCOC and the Meitei Pangal community will take firm decision against any outcome which will be detrimental to the peaceful coexistence of different communities in Manipur and territorial integrity of the state.
