Senapati: The All Manipur Tribals Development Grievances Forum (AMTDGF) has called for Indefinite Economic Blockade in Manipur from November 3 midnight alleging the Govt of Manipur not to have fulfilled their demand to release the pending amount of fund under Ministry of Rural Development of MGNREGA.

In a press release, it stated that the All Manipur Tribals Development Grievances Forum (AMTDGF) strongly condemned the adamant stands of the state Govt to the demand of the forum. The forum had earlier submitted a memorandum to N. Biren Singh, Chief Minister, Manipur on October 10, 2022 demanding the release of Rs. 756,49,62,000/- (Seven hundred fifty six crore, forty nine lakh, sixty two thousand) only sanctioned by the Govt of India under Ministry of Rural Development (Department of Rural Development) Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi on dated, 23/06/2022 on the same day on October 10, 2022.
So far, Govt of Manipur (Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department) had reportedly released Rs. 100 crore only to the 16 districts of Manipur under MGNREGA.

Mention may be made that the AMTDGF had earlier postponed the proposed Indefinite Economic Blockade along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) and NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) through a press release on October 20, 2022 in all leading local newspapers of Manipur due to Diwali and Ningol Chakouba festival of the state. The forum had reportedly declared through a press release that the forum shall be compelled to impose Indefinite Economic Blockade in both the NHs if the Govt of Manipur does not respond within October 30 urging the state Govt to release the pending funds under MGNREGA to all districts of the state.

AMTDGF on Wednesday declared “Indefinite Economic Blockade” from midnight of November 3, 2022 along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) and NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam). The forum appeals to the general public of the state, trucks, transporters associations and CSOs to cooperate with the forum in the larger interest of Manipur. AMTDGF also warns that some vested organizations masquerading to be service messengers of the tribals trying to mislead and confuse the people of Manipur through social media.

However, the Naga People’s Organization (NPO) which is the apex civil body of Senapati district rejected to enforce in Senapati district as the former has reportedly not taken prior permission. It may be noted here that there is a standing resolution of the NPO that any bandh or blockade to be called by any organization in the district should take prior permission from the NPO. According to a source received from Information & Publicity Wing of the NPO, the proposed economic blockade will not be allowed to enforce in Senapati district as per the standing resolution of the NPO. It has also asked all to refrain from supporting the said bandh. Any volunteer found involved supporting the said bandh will be at their own risk, it warns.
