ANSAM, TKLI Urges SSC and Manipur Governor to Reinstate SSC Exam Centre in Ukhrul District

Senapati, September 6: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), has submitted a representation to the Regional Director (NER) of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and the Governor of Manipur, requesting the reinstatement of the SSC exam centre in Ukhrul district. This request follows the recent cancellation of the SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination for Ukhrul District.

In the representation, ANSAM noted that the SSC exams have been successfully conducted in Ukhrul since 2018, under Centre Code 14446, without any issues. Conducting these exams in Ukhrul has alleviated significant hardship for aspiring students and their families, the statement emphasized.

ANSAM expressed concern over the sudden decision by the SSC, NER office, questioning the rationale behind the move, which they believe lacked sound judgment. They labeled the action discriminatory, suggesting that it misrepresents the Naga areas, including Ukhrul, which is a peaceful zone not involved in the ongoing communal conflicts in Manipur.

The association affirmed that the Ukhrul exam centre meets all required feasibility criteria for conducting the exams. The Ukhrul district administration has also assured the safety and security of exam officials (ref. No. 7/1/2019-DC/UKL). Furthermore, ANSAM assured public cooperation in ensuring smooth exam conduct.

In light of these facts, ANSAM has urged the relevant authorities to intervene and reinstate the CGL exam centre in Ukhrul in the interest of aspiring candidates and the general public. The association remains hopeful for a positive response.

In similar vein, the Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI), in a letter to SSC at Lodhi Road, New Delhi has requested the Chairman to restitution SSC Exam Centre in Ukhrul District, Manipur. TKLI in the letter clarified that Ukhrul District remains unaffected by the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur since the beginning of the conflict in May 3, 2024.

“Ukhrul district is inhabited by the Tangkhul Naga community accounting for 98% of the district’s population and as such has seen no security concerns in the ongoing conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities; cancellation of the exam centre will hamper the prospects of the innocent students/candidates of the district to a large extend,” the letter to SSC Chairman stated.
