UKHRUL: The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), National People’s Party said that no leniency or impunity should be shown to anyone who targets children, women and unarmed civilians while condemning the brutal attack at Tronglaobi and recent violence in Manipur.

NPYF, in a statement, said it was deeply shocked and heartbroken by the brutal attack allegedly carried out by Kuki militants at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai under Moirang Police Station in the early hours of Tuesday, which has claimed the lives of two innocent children and left their mother critically injured.

Extending condolences to the bereaved family of Oinam Tomthin (5 years) and Baby Oinam Yaisana (5 months), who were mercilessly killed while they were asleep in their own home and prayed for the speedy and full recovery of their mother, Oinam Ongbi Binita (35), who is currently fighting for her life in the ICU. NPYF also extended its solidarity to Oinam Mangal Singh, the father of the two deceased children, and with the entire family in this unimaginable moment of pain and loss.

It termed the use of explosive devices to target a civilian home as an “inhuman, cowardly and senseless act of terror” aimed at spreading fear and destabilising peace in Manipur.

“Reports that an explosive device breached their residence and detonated inside, and that two more explosive devices resembling RPGs were later recovered near the site and fitted towards other houses, show a clear intention to cause mass casualties among innocent civilians. Such actions are completely unacceptable in any civilised society,” the statement read.

Strongly condemning the heinous attack allegedly committed by Kuki militant elements, NPYF demanded that those responsible be swiftly identified, hunted down and dealt with firmly as per the law.

It also condemned the reported brutal firing by CRPF personnel towards civilians at Tronglaobi later on Tuesday, which has reportedly led to the death of three civilians and leaving many injured.

Stating that the use of excessive or disproportionate force on unarmed civilians is unacceptable in a democratic country and further deepens mistrust and anger among the people, NPYF demanded an impartial inquiry, accountability, and strict action against any personnel found guilty of violating standard procedures and human rights.

It further condemned the firings and attacks allegedly carried out by suspected Kuki militants on April 6 towards Sinakeithel village in Ukhrul district.

“The attack, which reportedly began at around 6:30 am and intensified after 10:30 pm with more than 20 bombs launched towards the village, has created widespread panic and posed serious threats to the lives and safety of civilians. Such coordinated assaults on villages are nothing less than acts of war against peaceful residents and must not be tolerated,” it stated.

The NPYF called upon the Government of India and the state government to take strong, decisive and time-bound action against all those involved in these attacks, whether militant groups or security personnel misusing their authority.

It demanded immediate identification and arrest of those responsible for the Tronglaobi and Sinakeithel attacks, a high-level, impartial investigation into the CRPF firing at Tronglaobi, with accountability fixed at all levels, strengthened security and clear protocols to protect vulnerable villages and civilian areas across Manipur and regular communication and confidence-building measures with local communities to prevent further escalation.
