AR and Police Apprehend Suspected Arms Dealer in Ukhrul

Ukhrul: In a joint operation, Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(S) along with Ukhrul Police apprehended a suspected arms dealer and seized Rs. 13,11,130 in cash, including various arms and war like stores in Ukhrul District on Wednesday.

Based on the credible intelligence about an arms dealer operating in Ukhrul Town, as per sources, troops of Assam Rifles in a joint operation with Ukhrul Police personnel carried out swift search operations at the residence of the accused at Viewland on the intervening night of 9 April 2024. The search operation resulted in seizure of Rs. 13,11,130/- in cash, one Carbine Machine Gun, one pistol, one Chinese Hand Grenade, one 12 Gauge Shot gun and quantity 203 rounds of ammunition of various calibre.

The apprehended individual has been handed over to Ukhrul Police for investigation and further legal action.

According to Ukhrul Police, the individual has been identified as Nganingmi Vashum (42) of New Tusom village, PO and PS Jessami, Ukhrul District, Manipur.

Details of items recovered from the individuals are Rs. 13,11,130 in cash, 9mm Carbine with magazine (1), 9mm ball ammunition (37), Pistol with magazine (1), Chinese Hand grenade (1), 5.56 mm INSAS rounds (40), 0.22 Ball ammunition (15) AK-47 rounds (1), 7.62 SLR fired cartridges (3), Assault Rifles Sling (3) 12 Gauge Shotgun (1), Shotgun rounds (110), Shotgun fired cartridges (3), mobile phone (2) and a wallet.

Accordingly, an FIR No. 8(4)2024/UKL-PS U/S 400 IPC, 25(1-C) 27 Arms Act and 5 Explosive Substances Act 1908 has been registered in this regard.
