Ukhrul: Womenfolk of Thawai Kuki village under Litan Police Station in Kamjong District of Manipur on Wednesday stage a protest against the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) order for removal of BSF personnel posted at Thawai Kuki village.

One protester, Hohoi Haokip stated, “we will sit on the road and demonstrate against the MHA plan to move out BSF personnel posted at Thawai Kuki village.” She further added that “no BSF personnel will leave the said village until there is peace in Manipur or until another security personnel arrangement is is made to mend the post, whichever is earlier.”

The women protester express their concern about moving out of BSF personnel they also fear that once the security personnel are remove their houses and their Village might be attack again. They also warn that if the BSF personnel are move out they will left their village and shelter in some Relief Camp as Internally Displaced Persons.

Mention may be made that on 18 August 2023 an armed militant attack Thawai Kuki village and on that fateful day three village youth volunteers namely Thangkhokai Haokip (35), Jamkhogin Haokip (26) and Hollenson (Boicha) Baite (24) were killed while guarding their village.

Inspector LL. Tezii, OC of Litan PS informed this correspondent that “as an emergency replacement, police personnel from Ukhrul Police Reserved Line will temporary occupy the post until another arrangement is made by the concerned authority.”

Thawai Kuki Village with a total of around 40 houses falls under Phungyar Sub-Division, Kamjong district and is situated about 4.5 km from Litan Police Station, which falls under the jurisdiction of Ukhrul District Police.
