UKHRUL: Four civilians were allegedly abducted by the Assam Rifles today in Ukhrul District, leading to violent confrontations in various parts of the area.
According to a complaint from the Hungpung Village Administrative Council submitted to the Officer-in-Charge of the Ukhrul Police Station, four local villagers were illegally abducted by the Assam Rifles while they were attending to their fields around 5:00 PM.

The council accused the Assam Rifles of abducting the four civilians without any provocation or suspicious behavior on their part. The individuals who were taken are identified as Yuimung Khapai Shimray (28), son of Lt. Zimiksho Khapai Shimray; Shomi Shokchui (38), son of Machangta Shongchui; Hungreithei Kasomva (37), son of Noiba Kasomva; and Khuirami KSV (36), son of Naoba KSV.
Further, the council urged the Officer-in-Charge to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and to ensure the immediate release of the civilians.
Following the incident, confrontations between Assam Rifles personnel and civilians were reported in several locations, including Shokvao, Litan, and Shangshak Khullen.

In a video footage purportedly capturing the incidents, villagers were seen clashing with Assam Rifles personnel. Security forces were filmed removing barricades that had been set up to prevent them from advancing, as villagers demanded the safe release of the four individuals. The villagers could be heard pleading for the return of those abducted.
In another video, it was read out that the four detainees were handed over safely unharmed to the Tangkhul Naga Long through the chairman of Laho village, with no harassment reported from the security forces during the abduction.
