Assam Rifles Rebuttal: “Chandel Naga Civil Bodies Condemn ‘Merciless Torture’ of Dk. K Maring by 3rd AR” on 2 Feb 24

1.         This Rebuttal is in response to an article titled “Chandel Naga Bodies condemn merciless torture of DK. K Maring by 3rd Assam Rifles” published by The Ukhrul Times on 02 February 2024, describing the recent allegations made by Maring Frontal Organisations (MFO) regarding the incident involving Mr. DK Korungthang.

2.         Contrary to the claims made, it is important to clarify that Mr. Korungthang’s vehicle was not confiscated by the Security Forces. The vehicle, a Maruti Gypsy, was left untouched, and all belongings, including cash inside it were also not disturbed.

3.         Based on credible information, Mr. Korungthang was questioned by the Security Forces. Based on the information provided by Mr. Korungthang himself, the vehicle and the cash was retrieved from the initial site by the security forces and promptly deposited with the local Police as evidence.

4.              We understand the concerns raised by the MFO, and we assure the public that the Security Forces conducted the operation with utmost professionalism, adhering to the law and respecting individual rights. The security forces remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the region.

5.         Security Forces urges The Ukhrul Times to uphold the principles of responsible journalism by publishing a correction or retraction to set right the implied impression presented in the article. Furthermore, the publication is encouraged to exercise due diligence and accuracy in future reporting related to security matters, as sensationalism can lead to misunderstandings and erode public trust in the Security Forces.
