Athuan Abonmai, Former Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) President Found Dead After Abduction

Athuan Abonmai from Machengluang village, former president of the Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) was found dead on Wednesday after his abduction news the same day, not far away from Pallong village, under Tamei police station, Tamei sub-division. 

Athuan Abonmai ‘s body was found about 7 km from Pallong village, according to source.

A report of abduction and kidnapping of Athuan Abonmai was filed by his son, 28-year-old Arai Abonmai at Lamphel Police Station on Wednesday morning. The report filed by Arai Abonmai at Lamphel PS said that his father was kidnapped and abducted at around 11:30 am allegedly by NSCN-IM cadres from Tamenglong headquarters.

The report also added “there is apprehension that my father may be harmed by UGs” and pleaded for immediate measures to rescue his father.

Lamphel police accordingly filed FIR no.4(09) 2021 LPS W/S 365/400/34-IPC.

Upon learning of Athuan Abonmai’s kidnapping, office of the Joint Tribes Council, a conglomerate of Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme tribes issued a press statement on the reported abduction of Athuan Abonmai by unknown persons from Tamenglong on Wednesday.

The Joint Tribes Council appealed the kidnappers for his safe release at the earliest on humanitarian ground.

It is reported that the body of Athuan Abonmai  reached his native Machengluang village brought by its villagers and Pallong villagers.

A team of Tamenlgong police is reported to have reached the spot for preliminary investigation.
