ATSUM acknowledges ECI for change of poll date

Senapati: The All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM) welcomes and appreciates the upright act of the ECI for revising the date of poll of general elections to the 12th Legislative Assembly of Manipur vide its press-note No. ECI/PN/19/2022 dated, February 10.

In a press communique signed by Khaiminlen Doungel, secretary, Information and Publicity of the apex stribal student body, states that the positive response of the ECI to the call of the people to respect the practice and sentiments of minority Christians in the state of Manipur is candidly valued.

Significantly, ATSUM also acknowledges the political parties, politicians, AMCO, Civil Organizations and individuals for asserting the rights of minority Christians in one voice and one accord with principle of upholding secularism in the country.

Mention may be made that the poll date for first phase in Manipur state was scheduled on February 27 Sunday earlier.

However, the poll date was deferred from Sunday to Monday for first phase and the second phase from March 3 to March 5 for second phase of elections after the ECI team had a meeting with state minority Christian organisations.
