Awareness Programme on Human-Wildlife Conflict Held in Chandel

CHANDEL: A one-day awareness programme on the NALSA Scheme on Access to Justice for Victims of Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC), 2025, was held at Y/Khutha village under Chakpikarong Sub-Division in Chandel on Wednesday.

Organised by Helping Hands Initiative in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, Chandel, the programme aimed to raise awareness about free legal aid, legal rights, and assistance in accessing relief and compensation.

As the resource person, Ts Hmanrose, Convenor of Helping Hands Initiative, explained the nature of human-wildlife conflict and the channels for seeking legal assistance under the NALSA Scheme through the Legal Aid Clinic.

She also spoke about what one should do in the event of a wildlife incident, what assistance the NALSA HWC Scheme provides, and who may be eligible for free legal aid in Manipur. The Convenor also informed the gathering about free legal aid, where to seek assistance in Chandel, and the compensation available.

The programme was attended by more than 50 members of the village authority, women’s society, and youth.

Earlier, the awareness programme began with a prayer led by HT Division, former Pastor of Baptist Church, Y Khutha, followed by a welcome address by WL Thanga, a member of the NGO.
