AWO-AYI Haolaa Phakhari Khangahan (Compete to Preserve Folksong)

Ekhon is organizing and sponsoring AWO-AYI Haolaa Phakhari Khangahan to encourage public participation in documenting dying Folk Culture and, at the same time, encourage and promote artists towards a Career in Folk Singing.

Judges for this competition are Guru Rawung and Shimreingam Angelus TS (SATT) (Rtd. MPS)

Result will be declared on ‘International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples’, August 9, 2021.

Here is the criteria to participate:

Songs: To choose from any existing Ancient Tangkhul Folksongs

Details to mention: Origin, Meaning and whether the songs are Seasonal, General or Occasional songs.

Voices/Parts (for competition): Soprano and Tenor (Khavao and Rokra)

Mode of Presentation: Recorded Audio and Video. (Not necessarily studio recorded but nevertheless the content should be of good quality.)

There will be Cash Prizes for top winners and a chance to feature in All India Radio, Tangkhul Program as Folk Artists and other opportunities.
