Bail granted to Dr Mark Thangkhomang Haokip

Churachandpur: Human rights activist from Manipur, Dr. Mark Thangkhomang Haokip, who was arrested in Delhi over his remark on ‘Merger Agreement’ was granted bail late last night on Friday by the magistrate.

In a major setback for the prosecution, the remand prayer of the police was rejected and bail was granted after the court concluded that further custody was not required. The remand prayer for the police was till 10th June.

As soon as Dr. Mark T Haokip was brought by the team of Manipur Police from New Delhi, he was produced the same day before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal West-II.

After hearing the prosecution story and the defence counsel and considering the materials placed before the court, the remand prayer of the prosecution was rejected and the accused was allowed to go on bail. However, the accused could not provide sureties therefore he was sent to the judicial custody until the furnishing of the bond.

Altogether, 5 FIRs have been filed against Dr. Haokip and it is reported that 4 cases are still pending at different courts.
