CHURACHANDPUR: Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing met internally displaced families, largely from the Vaiphei community from Island Block in Saikul, currently taking shelter at Songpi in Churachandpur district, during a visit on Monday.
The MLA, accompanied by her team, said the meeting was deeply emotional, as families who once lived peacefully in Saikul have been staying in relief camps since the outbreak of the conflict in May 2023.

“My interactions with the IDPs were particularly emotional. We shared their memories, their pain and most importantly, their longing to return home. Their desire to go back to their villages and rebuild their lives remains as strong as ever,” MLA Hangshing was quoted saying.
Hangshing also met members of the Vaiphei Chiefs’ Association to discuss issues concerning the rehabilitation of the displaced families and efforts towards peace.
The displaced families shared their hardships and expressed a strong desire to return to their homes with dignity, security, justice and hope, according to the MLA’s team.
