IMPHAL: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manipur Pradesh on Wednesday organised a protest march in Imphal, accusing the Congress and its alliance partners of promoting unrest and misleading students for political gains. The march witnessed a brief exchange of slogans between BJP and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) workers near Congress Bhawan.

Holding placards reading “Stop Sponsored Anarchy,” “Stop Manufactured Chaos,” and “Congress = Anarchy, BJP = Democracy,” BJP workers marched from the party’s state office at Nityapat Chuthek through Paona Bazaar to BT Road. As the rally passed the Congress Bhawan gate, workers of both parties raised slogans against each other before police personnel prevented the situation from escalating.

Chief minister Yumnam Khemchand, accompanied by several BJP MLAs and senior party leaders, joined the dharna organised by the BJP Manipur Pradesh at its state headquarters in Nityapat Chuthek before the party’s protest march commenced.

Speaking to reporters, BJP Manipur Pradesh secretary K. Sharat alleged that the Congress and its alliance partners were functioning under “CJP (Cockroach Janata Party)” and were using students as part of their political campaign. He claimed that many students had been brought under the CJP banner and were being misled for political purposes.

Sharat further alleged that the opposition was attempting to create instability in the country and push India towards a situation similar to neighbouring countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. He claimed that such attempts to divide the country would not succeed.
