Blood Bank in District Hospital Ukhrul to start functioning

Ukhrul: In a positive and welcoming development for the populace of Ukhrul district, Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur has approved M/s Blood Storage Centre, district hospital Ukhrul to start storage of whole human blood. To run the blood centre, the directorate of health services (drugs control administration) had appointed one Pathologist doctor and two technical staff.

Certificate of approval to start the blood storage was issued by N. Rimotkumar Meetei, Licensing & Controlling Authority, Directorate of Health Services on November 14, 2022.

The following items has been approved for M/s Blood Storage Centre, district hospital Ukhrul on the premises situated at the said hospital under the supervision of the following staff with Dr Soreiphy Ruivah, Pathologist, as the name of approved medical officer for whole human blood, I.P; while Ng Grace Zimik and AS. Wungreiyo as blood storage technicians.

M/s Blood Storage Centre and transfusion unit, J.N. hospital, JNIMS, Porompat, Imphal east would be the name and address of the mother blood bank from whom the blood and its components would be procured.

The approval shall be in force effective November 14, 2022 to November 13, 2024.

M/s Blood Storage Centre, district hospital Ukhrul would be functioned under the following conditions: The captive consumption of whole human blood and/or its component in the above mentioned centre shall not be more than 2000 units annually; in the event of any changes in the technical staff it shall be duly reported to the Licensing Authority.

In addition to the above conditions, in the event of any change in the Mother Blood Centre from whom the blood units are procured, the same shall be intimated to the Licensing Authority (LA)/for approval.

The centre shall also apply for renewal of the approval to the Licensing Authority three months prior to the date of expiry of the approval.

The centre shall store samples of donors blood as well as patients samples for a period of seven days (7 days) after transfusion.

As per the certificate of approval for storage of whole human blood, no blood shall be collected from the donors at the blood storage centre under any circumstances.

It further stated in its conditions that cold chain during transportation shall be maintained, while blood and its components shall also be maintained at requisite temperature.
