Body of Man Washed Away by Flood Waters Recovered

Imphal: A decomposed body of a man was found near Ima Market in Imphal on Wednesday morning. The body has been identified as Mayarngam Shinglai, 38, son of Nelson Shinglai from Kasom Khullen village in Kamjong district.

According to sources, Shinglai was accidentally washed away by flood waters from Khoyathong in Imphal East on June 1. His decomposed body was found lying in the Imphal River by some workers, five days after he went missing.

After a post-mortem conducted at RIMS, Imphal, a condolence service was held at Chingmeirong in Imphal East.

So far, six persons have been killed by the ongoing floods in Manipur following heavy rainfall after the cyclonic storm hit the state.

Many areas in Imphal, including Tangkhul Avenue and Nagaram in Imphal East, remain under water. Authorities are making all-out efforts to drain and clean the waterlogged areas.

A total of 126,950 people across 255 villages and localities have been affected, 16,364 houses damaged, and 20,504 people evacuated across the state.
