BSF holds civic action programme for schools, IDPs in Thoubal

THOUBAL, NOV 25: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday carried out a civic action programme in Ukhangshang, Thoubal district, reaching out to students of five remote schools and displaced families living in an IDP camp.

The event, held at Excellent Model Academy School from 11:30 am to 1 pm, was organised under Frontier HQ BSF M&C Silchar and Adhoc Sector Manipur.

The beneficiary schools—located in the foothills of Nongmaiching and the western Manipur ranges, about 14 km from NH-102/AH-01—were Message Mission English Medium School (190 students), Eastern Blooming Flower School (400), Excellent Model Academy School (600), Sekmai Khumbi High School (307) and Little Rose English School (105).

Support was also extended to the IDP camp at Rice Mill, Thoubal. Nambashi Horton village in Kasom Khullen, Kamjong district, received water tanks and essential supplies following a request from the residents.

According to the BSF, around 1,600 people, including 300 men and 250 women from eight villages, took part in the programme.

Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal, Hannah Kahmei, IAS, attended as chief guest. DIG Surender Kumar of Adhoc Sector Manipur and Thoubal SP Manoj Prabhakar were also present. Items distributed included stationery kits, sports gear, wall clocks, ceiling fans, tables, chairs and Syntex tanks.

Addressing the students, the Commandant of Adhoc M&C XVI Bn BSF urged young people to focus on their studies, maintain physical fitness and steer clear of drugs. He also encouraged them to consider joining the security forces, saying assistance would be provided for pre-recruitment training.
