Butcher shops ignore STC’s pork ban in Ukhrul

Despite the ban on pork notified by the Ukhrul ADC’s Small Town Committee (STC), pork sellers continued to sell the meat at their shops in Ukhrul town.

Media persons who visited the meat market near TNL Ground at Viewland on Tuesday, found pork items openly displayed hanging above the butchers’ counter. Even some people were seen buying meat from the shops.

It may be recalled that through an order issued on 4 December, STC had notified a ban on selling of pork in the entire district with effect from 7 December, following reports of mass deaths of pigs due to unknown diseases suspected to be African Swine Flu in several parts of the state. Attachments area
