“Ukhrul district is prominently figured in the political history of Manipur because of its immense contributions,” stated BJP State President Prof Tikendra Singh.

Singh said this while attending the inauguration of a new party office as chief guest at Hamleikhong here in Ukhrul town on Tuesday.

“Manipur owes much of its political growth to the immense contributions Ukhrul district has made. The district has given the state its longest serving and the first tribal chief ministers in the persons of late Rishang Keishing and late Yangmaso Shaiza, who hailed from far-off Phungyar area and Ukhrul constituency respectively,” he recounted.

He also recalled that late Dannyboy Shaiza who also hailed from the district, was the first tribal BJP MLA in the state.

He then added: “We still hold close to our hearts what the capable and dynamic political leaders of the district has done for the growth of the state politics and we cannot afford to forget the district and its contributions.”
