Ukhrul:  A capacity development workshop on “Forest Carbon Projects—From Concept to Implementation” was inaugurated by Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner,   Zuringla Kengoo, IAS, at the TTA Hall, Hamleikhong, on Monday.

Organized by Professor Phungmayo Horam in partnership with Recognize Rise and Empower Association (RREA), the workshop is supported by Diaspora 2030 and funded by Germany-based organizations BMZ and GIZ, along with the Western Union Foundation. The event will run until December 6.

The program commenced with a prayer led by Rev. Dr. Y.L. Mingthing, followed by an introduction from RREA Director Mathanmi Hungyo. Addressing the gathering, Zuringla Kengoo emphasized the significance of forest conservation in improving livelihoods and combating challenges such as poppy cultivation, while contributing to global environmental preservation efforts.

Dr. Phungmayo Horam outlined the workshop’s objectives and provided an overview of the planned sessions for the coming days. Day one featured two engaging sessions: “Forest Carbon Projects and Climate Change Mitigation,” delivered by Dr. Horam, and “Fundamentals of Forest Carbon Projects,” presented by Chanthingla Horam, a research scholar from IIT Bombay.The workshop drawn more than 40 enthusiastic participants from Tamenglong, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Kamjong, and Ukhrul districts, reflecting a collective commitment to understanding and implementing sustainable forest management practices.
