Chandel, August 28: The Chandel District Police has appealed and called for a collective fight from all citizens, village leaders, community organisations, churches, youth clubs, women’s groups, and every concerned individual against drugs.
Early Thursday morning, the lifeless body of a youth was found in Anal Khullen village under Chandel district by morning walkers. Later, the family identified the youth as Ws. Lungwar, son of Ws. Benjamin of Lamphou Charu village.
In a press release, Dharmendra Kumar Tyagi, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Chandel, stated that the “Chandel District Police is deeply saddened by the untimely and tragic death of a young boy in the jungle from Lamphou Charu Village, in between Lamphou Charu Village and Anal Khullen Village in Chandel District, suspected to be caused by a drug overdose.” This heart-breaking incident is not just the grief of one family but a painful reminder for all of us of the growing threat of drugs in our community, the SP added.

The SP maintained that drugs are silently and steadily destroying many precious lives. “They are stealing away our young people, the future pillars of our District, before they can even reach their full potential. If we allow this menace to continue unchecked, more innocent lives will be lost, families will be shattered, and our society will suffer irreparable damage,” he said.
Stating that this is the time for unity, responsibility, and collective action, the SP said the Chandel District Police appeals to all citizens, village leaders, community organisations, churches, youth clubs, women’s groups, and every concerned individual to join hands in this fight. “Together, let us identify those who are bringing in, selling, and spreading these deadly substances in our District. These individuals are not just breaking the law, they are destroying the lives of our children and weakening the foundation of our society,” he added.

The police alone cannot win this battle. We need the cooperation, vigilance, and courage of every citizen. If you see, hear, or know of any drug-related activities, do not remain silent. Speak up. Report it. Your information, no matter how small, may save a life. With trust and unity, we can root out this evil and restore hope, the SP appealed.
The SP further called for protecting the young generation, saying, “Let us give them a chance to live, to dream, and to build a better tomorrow.”
Stating that each of us has a role to play, he called for all to rise together and say with one voice: NO TO DRUGS, YES TO LIFE. TOGETHER, LET US MAKE CHANDEL A SAFE, PEACEFUL, AND DRUG-FREE DISTRICT.
