Chandel launches NID/IPPI Campaign 2026, targets every child under 5

CHANDEL: The District Health Society, Chandel, in collaboration with the Office of the District Immunization Officer, launched the National Immunization Day/Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign 2026 at Chandel Christian Community Hall on Sunday, reaffirming the district’s commitment to sustaining India’s polio-free status.

Dr. B Cingdeihnieng, District Immunization Officer, Chandel, delivered the welcome address and a keynote presentation highlighting the importance of the Pulse Polio drive. She informed that polio booths are being set up across Chandel for the booth session and will be followed by house-to-house visits by health teams to cover missed children on the following two days. The campaign targets all children aged 0–5 years, covering more than 5,000 beneficiaries across the district.

Dr. Joyson Mathew Monsang, Chief Medical Officer Chandel, who presided as Functional President, said India has been polio-free since 2014 but vigilance remains critical due to the risk of importation. He appealed to health workers, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, and village authorities to ensure 100% coverage and make the campaign a success.

The NID/IPPI 2026 was formally launched by Reikimdaar Khaling, SDO Chandel Block, who attended as Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, she lauded frontline health workers for their role in the campaign and said the theme ‘Together, We Can Eradicate Polio — A Drop Today, A Safe Tomorrow’ must reach every household. She directed officials to conduct intensive house-to-house activity in the follow-up rounds. She also called on families not to miss the opportunity.

The programme was also attended by Langhu Rockson, Chief of Chandel Christian Village, Jireh Moyon, External Monitor of WHO Imphal unit, village authorities, parents, and staff of District Health Society, Chandel.
